Switzerland is under pressure to close its ski resorts during the festive season to avoid "unfair competition".
The European Union has said it hopes to reach an agreement with the country to create a level playing field.
Alpine neighbors France, Italy, Germany and Austria have been forced to close their slopes for much of the holiday season amid the pandemic.
"Regarding Switzerland, talks are ongoing," France's new Minister for European Affairs, Clement Beaune, told RMC radio.
