The "greens" demand the opening of negotiations with Albania and RMV

When there are only 20 days left from the elections in Germany, the political parties there have entered into a feverish campaign, but the expansion of the EU and the Western Balkans is not left out of attention either.

According to DË, the CDU/CSU of the current chancellor Angela Merkel thinks that the internal cohesion of the EU should not be jeopardized by the new members. This means for the CDU/CSU, that the candidate countries must fully fulfill the admission criteria, but it also requires the intensification of the connection of the Western Balkans with the EU.

While the Social Democratic Party, SPD, underlines in the program that the growing influence of other countries, in South-Eastern and Southern Europe, requires a new direction of the neighborhood policy towards the Balkans. The Social Democrats explicitly demand the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU.

While the greens express themselves in a more detailed and concrete way for the Balkans and for the Albanians in their program. They demand "the opening of the first chapter of membership negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia".

Kosovo is not excluded from their program either, for which they demand the liberalization of visas, as well as the progress of the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, which they call necessary.
