YouTube will enable creators to create video games using Gemini 3

Google maintains that artificial intelligence is something people need and want more of in their lives, and the latest step comes from YouTube Gaming, which has announced an open beta for a project called Playables Builder.

This project allows select YouTube creators to use “a prototype web application built with Gemini 3” to create short video games, without the need for coding.

YouTube tested adding mini-games to its desktop and mobile platforms as early as 2023, and then, last year, added multiplayer play to Playables.

Given that artificial intelligence is appearing across all Google-owned services, this news shouldn't come as a surprise.

This sounds similar to the Disco and GenTabs projects that Google Labs recently announced. They provide an artificial intelligence layer for web browsing; the user gives a natural language request and gets an interactive “widget” that does what they asked for.

These tools have several practical uses for research, where the goal is to bring together all the data the user is looking for into a manageable and easy-to-read interface.

However, some experts are skeptical about the effectiveness of this approach to video game development. They say that while artificial intelligence can help create games without technical knowledge, it does not guarantee an enjoyable gaming experience for players. /Telegraph/
