A father who was influenced by QAnon and Illuminati conspiracy theories and has been accused of murdering his children with a spear fishing gun could face the death penalty.

Matthew Coleman, 40, believed his children would grow up to be monsters so he had to kill them, a court document said.

He is facing two counts of first-degree murder, where he took his son Kaleo and 10-month-old daughter Roxy in Rosarito, Mexico and killed them.

On Wednesday, the Justice Department said: The indictment filed today charges Coleman with two counts of first-degree murder. Under the law, the charges are eligible for the death penalty. The Attorney General will decide whether to seek the death penalty at a later date.

Coleman told the FBI that he took his children to Mexico after following some Illuminati and QAnon conspiracy theories that led him to believe the youngsters would turn into monsters after his wife passed on snake DNA to them.

It is also said that Coleman was aware that he was doing something that was wrong, but that he believed that by doing so he would save the world.

Randy Grossman, US Attorney said: There are no words to describe the deep grief that engulfs an entire community when a child is killed. The Department of Justice is committed to getting justice for these victims and their loved ones. /tvklan.al
