The main witness of the "Sarajevo Safari", Chetnik Slavko Aleksic, dies - Vucic was part of his forces

Slavko Aleksić, known as the Chetnik voivode and symbol of terror during the siege of Sarajevo, dies.

Slavko Aleksić, one of the most controversial and well-known figures associated with the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the 1425-day siege of Sarajevo, died today in Trebinje.

He was the commander of the paramilitary formation "Novosarajevski četnički odred" and in the public opinion of Bosnia and Herzegovina his name is strongly associated with snipers and military terror against the civilian population during the siege of the capital.

Aleksic was born in 1956 in the village of Bogdashiqi and spent a large part of his life in Sarajevo, where he worked and studied, reports N1.

Since the late 1980s he became involved in nationalist structures, and when the war broke out he took command of his unit in the Grbavica area.

The forces under his command were deployed in positions from which the city was under constant fire, and numerous civilian testimonies and reports link his units to attacks on the civilian population and the spread of fear among the inhabitants of Sarajevo. However, Aleksić was never tried before domestic or international courts for these acts.

After the NATO bombing and after the Dayton Peace Agreement, in 1996 he led the withdrawal of Serbian forces and part of the population from Grbavica, and continued ideological activities even after the war.

His name has recently returned to public debate in connection with the investigation known as the "Sarajevo Safari", which is taking place in Milan into the killing of civilians for fun during the siege of the Bosnian capital, where the current president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, was reportedly a participant.

The Siege of Sarajevo, which lasted from April 5, 1992, to February 29, 1996, is considered the longest siege of a capital city in modern history and led to the deaths of thousands of civilians, including children.

International bodies have called it a campaign of organized terror against the civilian population. /Telegraph/
