Venezuelan military accuses US of threatening military intervention and trying to seize oil

The Venezuelan Armed Forces reject the accusations and threats of the United States and will defend the independence and territorial integrity of the republic.

The Ministry of Defense of the Bolivarian Republic announced this in a statement on its Telegram channel.

"The Venezuelan National Armed Forces categorically reject the absurd statements of US President Donald Trump on December 16, in which he shamelessly threatened our country with armed action and ordered the imposition of a complete naval blockade with the aim of seizing ships transporting Venezuelan oil," the post said.

The statement emphasizes that the increased military threats against Venezuela are aimed at regime change, the brutal confiscation of the republic's oil and other strategic resources. The United States is said to be trying to revive the Monroe Doctrine and establish neocolonial dominance in the Western Hemisphere.

"The Armed Forces, together with the Venezuelan people and police, will defend the constitutional and democratic system of the republic, the territorial integrity of the country, its legitimate rights over air and maritime space, and will steadfastly defend freedom, sovereignty, independence and peace," the Venezuelan Defense Ministry said.
