The new railway bridge connecting Russia with China stretches along the banks of the Amur River. Through this bridge, the northeastern network of China is connected with the Russian Siberian railway. The bridge is 2,215 meters long and was completed after seven years. Most of the 1,886-meter bridge is on the Chinese side.
Tourists will now be able to travel by rail from one side to the other in less than eight minutes.
The Tongjiang-Nizhneleninskoye Bridge is the latest project completed under China's ambitious Belt and Road Initiative, which aims, among other things, to connect Eurasia through infrastructure.
The ruling Chinese Communist Party has declared a goal to make it possible to cross from China to London by rail, making the bridge another critical step in a longer journey across the Asian continent and beyond into Europe.
In addition to passengers, 21 million tons of cargo per year will move on this railway route.
