Washington prepares new sanctions against Russia if Moscow says "no" to peace plan for Ukraine...

The United States is preparing a new round of sanctions on Russia's energy sector to increase pressure on Moscow if President Vladimir Putin rejects a peace deal with Ukraine, Bloomberg News reported.

The United States is considering options such as targeting ships belonging to Russia's so-called shadow fleet of tankers used to transport Moscow's oil and the economic operators that facilitate the transactions.

Reuters did not confirm the reports, and the White House and State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The new measures could be announced as early as this week, according to Bloomberg.

Treasury Secretary Scott Besant discussed the measure when he met with a group of European ambassadors earlier this week, the news agency added.

For its part, the Russian presidency, responding to a question about the publication, stated that it had not seen it, but any sanctions would harm efforts to repair US-Russia relations.
