A potentially tragic incident has rocked Biloxi, Mississippi, where a woman is suspected of placing razor blades inside loaves of bread sold at two different Walmart stores. Authorities have arrested Camille Benson, 33, of Texas, on charges of attempted assault with intent to cause bodily harm. She is being held on $100 bail.
According to the Biloxi Police Department, customers reported finding razor blades inside bread purchased at both a Walmart Supercenter and a Walmart Neighborhood Market. Public Relations Officer Lt. Candace Young said the first incident was reported on Dec. 5, when a customer found a razor blade inside a loaf of bread purchased at the Walmart Supercenter. A second incident was reported on Dec. 8, when another customer reported a similar finding at the Walmart Neighborhood Market.
After another complaint was made on Sunday, Walmart Supercenter employees inspected the products and discovered that several more loaves of bread had been tampered with. Police were notified on Monday and immediately began investigating. In a press release, the Police Department urged all citizens who purchased bread at these two Walmart stores to carefully check the products and report any suspicious findings.
Walmart responded with an official statement, stressing that “the health and safety of our customers is always our top priority.” The company said it has recalled and fully inspected all products that may have been affected, adding that it will continue to cooperate with authorities during the investigation. Biloxi police said there is no evidence at this time that any other Walmart stores were targeted in this incident.
