Biden: We expect more attacks in the next 36 hours
Kabul was rocked by another explosion near the country's airport. Local media reported that from a rocket attack in a residential area, 6 people lost their lives, 4 of whom are children, while several others were injured.
The perpetrators of the attack are still unclear. This is after at the same time American officials announced that they had eliminated a terrorist attack by the ISIS-K organization.
They said they neutralized an explosives-laden vehicle driven by a suicide bomber targeting the airport with a drone, but it is not yet clear if it is the same incident.
The situation in the Afghan capital is quite tense as US President Joe Biden warns of further attacks by the Islamic State of Afghanistan branch within these 36 hours.
In a press statement, the head of the White House said that the situation at the Kabul airport is very dangerous in these remaining days until August 31, for the evacuation of American troops, diplomatic staff and Afghan collaborators.
He praised the drone strike that killed the mastermind of the suicide attacks on Kabul airport that killed 13 American soldiers and 169 Afghans, while warning that this was just the beginning of the campaign against terrorists in Afghanistan.
Only the United States is already conducting civilian evacuations from Kabul airport. Great Britain announced the closure of evacuations as well as other European allied countries.
Nearly 120 people have been evacuated since mid-August, while at least as many want to leave. The allies have called on the Taliban to leave the evacuation corridors open even after the departure of the foreign troops.
