TikTok was the most downloaded app in the world in 2020 and took the top spot overtaking Facebook Messenger.
The Chinese video sharing platform is the only app not owned by Facebook. TikTok owner ByteDance also holds the top spot with Chinese-language video app Douyin.
TikTok's continued popularity came even after former US President Donald Trump tried to ban it in America.
Last year, Trump issued an executive order to ban new downloads of the TikTok app in the US.
The Trump administration claimed that TikTok posed a national security risk after the Chinese government had access to its user data. The company has repeatedly denied the allegations.
Since becoming US President in January of this year, Joe Biden has withdrawn Mr. Trump's executive order.
By removing this challenge in the US, the company has explored new ways to attract users. /tvklan.al
