Taliban announce interim government: Interior minister, one wanted by US

The Taliban have announced a new interim government which will be led by one of its founders and as interior minister will be a militant wanted by the FBI.

The government will be headed by Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund and his deputy will be one of the co-founders of the Taliban, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.

"We know that the people were waiting for a new government", said spokesman Zabihullah Muhajid.

The Taliban took control of the country 3 weeks ago. The announcement of the interim cabinet is a step towards the formation of the official Taliban government.

Sarajuddin Haqqani, who is the head of a militant group known as the Haqqani network and which is behind several deadly attacks in the country during the years of war, has been announced as the interim interior minister.

This network has been declared a terrorist organization by the US. Mullah Yaqoob has been appointed as the interim Minister of Defense, while Khan Muttaqi has been appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs./tvklan.al
