Extending the terms of stay of the Americans is considered an extension of the occupation of Afghanistan
The Taliban who have taken power in Afghanistan have contradicted President Biden's statement that the Americans in Afghanistan will stay beyond August if it is necessary to evacuate the Americans.
The Taliban spokesman said in a statement that they will not extend the August 31 deadline for the current evacuation mission. For them, August 31 is a red line that must be respected. Extending the ability of the Americans to stay in Afghanistan beyond this date, the Taliban consider the extension of the occupation of Afghanistan.
The Taliban spokesman even went so far as to say that if this date were to change, Americans should prepare to face the consequences.
On the other hand, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was expected to hold an emergency G7 meeting on Tuesday to ask President Biden to delay the withdrawal of US troops to allow more time for evacuations from Kabul airport.
Thousands of Afghans and foreign nationals are still trying to fly out of the country, but evacuations are still few and far between.
