Kabul education policies, split-screen universities are introduced
Women in Afghanistan will only be allowed to study at universities, where classes will be segregated by gender and Islamic dress will be compulsory. A member of the new Taliban government Abdul Baki Haqani presented the new education policies during a conference in Kabul. He said that the Taliban do not want to go back 20 years.
However, female students will face restrictions under Taliban rule, including a mandatory dress code. "We will not allow boys and girls to study together", said the head of education in Kabul.
According to him, if there are no female teachers, then special measures will be applied to ensure separation.
"If necessary, a man can teach women, but on the basis of Sharia Law", he said. Women in Kabul and elsewhere in Afghanistan have been protesting against Taliban rule demanding their rights.
