Following the huge success of the film "The Housemaid," which was released in theaters on December 19, 2025 and earned over $133 million, a sequel called "The Housemaid's Secret" has been confirmed to be filmed this year, with Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone returning in the lead roles.
Specifically, Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone will return as Millie and Enzo. In addition, Sweeney and author Freida McFadden will reprise their roles as executive producers. Paul Feig will once again direct and produce the film, while screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine will work with Lionsgate to adapt the novel for the big screen.
The first film, "The Housemaid," starring Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar, was a huge success at the box office and maintained its popularity, earning more than $133 million worldwide.
"It's incredible to see how audiences around the world have loved 'The Handmaid' and the amazing work of our talented cast. We're thrilled that Freida McFadden has now continued Millie's journey in the books and that together with screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate we can bring this story to audiences," said Feig.

In addition to "The Handmaid's Secret," McFadden also published the third novel in the series in 2024, titled "The Handmaid's Tale."
Sweeney, 28, recently told People magazine that she would love to reprise her role in future sequels: "I was a huge fan of the books, so I would be as happy as anyone to see more of the Housemaid characters come to life and explore Millie more."
The actress added: "She's strong. She fights. She knows what she believes in and she stands up for it. I love characters like her. I love watching movies that fully embrace female strength and anger."
Although the sequel books move away from Seyfried's role as Nina, the actress has expressed her desire to appear in at least a cameo role in future films. Seyfried, 40, told Variety at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Jan. 3: "I can almost guarantee that I will appear in a smaller role. I really want to see Nina Winchester continue to work, because I would really like to go back to that world." /Telegraph/
