Starmer and European allies discuss Ukraine peace plan with Trump

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European allies have spoken with US President Donald Trump about the Ukraine peace plan.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke with US President Donald Trump as the US relationship with Europe faces great tensions.

Starmer's office said all leaders had agreed it was a "significant moment" for the future of Ukraine and Euro-Atlantic security.

The leaders discussed the US-led peace talks, welcoming their efforts – to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and to end the killings.

"Intensive work on the peace plan is ongoing and will continue in the coming days," Starmer said.

The three European leaders met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in London on Monday for talks on proposals to end the war amid concerns that Washington's initial plan supported Russian war aims.

Zelensky's team is expected to submit its latest peace proposals to US negotiators, while a meeting of the "coalition of the willing" - countries led by Britain and France - prepared to support Ukraine and deter Russia if a ceasefire is reached - is due to take place on Thursday.

Trump has been critical of Ukraine's European allies, denigrating them as "weak" leaders - who fail to "produce" anything as the war continues.

Zelensky said Ukraine will hold talks with the US on plans for post-war reconstruction and economic development.
