Skopje ranks second in Europe for air pollution

Skopje is still among the most polluted cities in the world this morning, according to data from the Swiss platform “IQAir”. At around 10:00, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia was ranked 19th on the global list and second in Europe in terms of air pollution, reports Telegrafi Makedonija.

The air quality index in Skopje is 154, which classifies it in the “unhealthy air” category. Such values pose a serious health risk, especially for children, the elderly, and people with chronic respiratory and heart diseases.
Data from measuring stations show that the concentration of PM2.5 particles in Skopje is 12 times higher than the annual reference value set by the World Health Organization. These are microparticles that easily penetrate deep into the lungs and can cause serious health consequences with prolonged exposure.

]Although Sarajevo tops the list of European countries with extremely high pollution this morning, the situation in Skopje remains worrying and once again confirms the long-term exposure of citizens to polluted air, especially during the winter months.
Globally, the most polluted city is Lahore in Pakistan, with an index of 368./Telegraph/
