Hospitals full of patients, doctors: Delta changed the situation

More than 100 thousand people have been hospitalized with Covid-19 in the United States of America. The figures were published by the American Center for Disease Control, positioning the US in a more difficult situation than in August of last year.

There were more than 100 people who were hospitalized with the virus in the last 317 hours, while on the same day a year ago, 24 people were receiving medical help in the hospital.

Cases have risen to seven in the last few weeks while many US citizens have not yet been vaccinated. The hardest hit states are Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Louisiana. In Florida, doctors say hospitals are headed for collapse as there are no more beds for patients.

"If the situation continues the same next week, there will be no space to accommodate the other infected people," they say. Last August we had no vaccines. Now we have half of the country vaccinated, but the numbers are heavier, the Delta variant has made a big difference", said Paul Offit, a member of the administration of Medicines and Food.

While cases have increased in most countries, some leaders have imposed other austerity measures to prevent a rapid spread of the coronavirus.
