The United States government will cover all expenses for Afghans who will be sheltered in different countries of the world until the legal procedures for them to settle in the US are completed.

This was said in a meeting organized by the American Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy R. Sherman and the American Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, in which the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, also participated.

In a press release from Kurti's office, it is said that in a meeting with representatives of dozens of countries and international organizations, the US expressed "deep appreciation for friendly countries, including Kosovo, that have shown their willingness and offered their readiness to temporarily house Afghan citizens, applicants in the process for 'Special Immigrant Visa' (SIV) in the United States of America".

Kosovo has responded positively to the US request to shelter Afghans, who have cooperated with American forces, after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.

However, it has not yet been announced how many Afghans will be sheltered in Kosovo and when they will arrive.

"The relevant teams of the Government of Kosovo and the Government of the United States of America are in constant communication regarding the details of their accommodation", says the announcement sent by the Office of Prime Minister Kurti.

The Government of Kosovo has decided to grant temporary and immediate protection to persons endangered by the internal conflict in Afghanistan.

From the states of the region, Albania and North Macedonia have expressed their willingness to host Afghans who have cooperated with US and NATO forces and who have worked for foreign organizations./REL
