The Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration has called on internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Serbia to participate and vote in the elections being held in Kosovo, an action that is being seen as direct interference by Serbian institutions in the electoral process of another country.
"With the appeal of our compatriots from the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, the Republic of Serbia calls on internally displaced persons from the southern province, temporarily settled in central Serbia, to vote in the elections in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija scheduled for December 28, 2025," the announcement states.
The Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration reminds interested parties that they can exercise their right if they possess a valid identity card issued by institutions in Kosovo.
"Every vote is important for the survival and survival of our people in Kosovo and Metohija," says the Commissariat.
The call comes on the eve of the December 28 parliamentary elections and raises concerns about the continued efforts of official Belgrade to exert political influence over Serbian citizens in Kosovo, through state structures and mechanisms controlled by it.
This call is seen as part of a broader strategy by Serbia to maintain political influence in Kosovo, especially in Serb-majority municipalities, by instrumentalizing the issue of displaced persons for political purposes.
