Russia announced on Wednesday that the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile system was deployed for combat patrol during routine exercises in Siberia.
The heavy equipment left the special installations and began maneuvers, including movements at night, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“The calculations of the mobile ground-based missile systems (MGRC) ‘Yars’ in Siberia were sent to patrol the roads as part of the planned exercises,” the ministry said. “During combat duty at field positions, the missile crews fulfilled dozens of tasks and instructions, including technical ones.”
Vehicle drivers and logistics personnel carried out intensive maneuvering actions along patrol routes, changed positions on the ground and dispersed missile divisions, she added.
"Yars teams practiced maintenance of engineering equipment in field positions, camouflage techniques and combat safety measures," the ministry said, adding that Eleron drones were used to ensure security along movement routes.
Yars is a mobile or stationary missile system equipped with a solid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile with a multiple independent reentry vehicle (MIRV).
The deployment of Yars, a modification of the Topol-M missile system, began in December 2009.
