Moscow plans to fit the Tsirkon missile system on its submarines and surface ships
Russia has successfully tested a hypersonic missile called "Zircon", a weapon that President Vladimir Putin has announced as part of a new generation of missile systems.
According to the press release, the missile was fired by Admiral Gorshkov from a warship stationed in the White Sea. It traveled about seven times the speed of sound before hitting land on the Barents Sea coastline more than 350 km away.
Some Western experts have questioned how advanced Russia's new generation of weapons is, researching that the hypersonic missiles' combination of speed, maneuverability and altitude make them difficult to track and intercept.

Russia plans to fit the Tsirkon missile system on its submarines and surface ships. Putin announced a series of new hypersonic weapons in 2018 in one of his speeches saying they could hit almost anywhere in the world.
In 2019, he threatened to deploy hypersonic missiles on ships and submarines that could be hidden outside US territorial waters if the United States moved to deploy intermediate-range nuclear weapons in Europe. Washington has not deployed such missiles in Europe, but Moscow is concerned that it could.
