Economics professor, Shkumbin Misini, has criticized the statements of the acting Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, regarding the number of new businesses registered in Kosovo this year.
Murati stated that by the end of October, over 11 new enterprises had been registered, while the figure could exceed 13 by the end of the year. However, according to Professor Misini, this indicator does not represent the true state of the economy.
On the FIVE show on TV Dukagjini, Misini was critical of the minister:
"Here the Minister of Finance, who is mediocre in economics, speaks publicly. It has nothing to do with the economy. Opening new businesses does not represent economic health."
He emphasized that the Kurti Government has not performed well in increasing employment:
"If he is silent on opening new businesses, let him present the employment outlook from 2020 to 2025. His government has seen employment growth of only 1 percent."
Misini added that many new businesses are opened solely to benefit from state subsidies, often employing family members:
"They open because of demands, especially for subsidies. It is very easy to open a business, but very difficult to close it. Let this show how many employees there are in these 11 thousand businesses."
He described Murat's presentation as part of the election campaign, emphasizing that business opening is not a sufficient indicator to assess the country's economic health.
Finally, the professor demanded that the Government publish real data on employment and economic performance during its mandate.
