The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, declared in Bled, Slovenia that on September 4, Kosovo will start new requests for admission to international organizations - starting with INTERPOL, UNESCO and the Council of Europe.
Vucic said that Kosovo, with this step, will completely stop the implementation of the Washington Agreement and that such a thing "will bring additional instability to the region". "Our job is to prepare and respond to this," Vucic said. He said that this information came to him from local intelligence sources.
On September 4 of last year, Kosovo and Serbia, under the mediation of the USA, reached an agreement on the normalization of economic relations. With this agreement, Kosovo has agreed to a one-year moratorium on requests for membership in international organizations, while Serbia has agreed to give up the campaign to derecognize Kosovo's independence. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora in Kosovo confirmed for Radio Free Europe that preparations are being made for application to several international organizations, but did not provide more details.
"Preparations in this direction are being made by the responsible teams, so that the applications will be ready when the application deadlines open", said the Information Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo. At the Strategic Forum in Bled, Vučić met with the special representative of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak.
Vucic said that the dialogue with Kosovo will continue at the technical level. "We are expecting Lajcak's visit to Pristina and Belgrade soon," Vucic said. Answering the questions of journalists in Bled, Vucic also said that it is clear to everyone that Serbia cannot join the European Union until it resolves its relations with Pristina. Under the mediation of the EU, Kosovo and Serbia have been holding talks for the normalization of relations since 2011.
