American authorities have declared a state of emergency
New York has declared a state of emergency after being hit by heavy rain and flooding as a result of Tropical Storm Ida.
The death toll has deepened as the toll rose to six after two confirmed victims in Alabama who were repairing the power grid.
Thousands of people have suffered damage, as powerful winds have destroyed their homes, property and everything they had.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city is experiencing extreme weather events.

The police called on people to be careful and stay away from the roads. The Fire Department was also engaged to respond to the citizens' request for help.
The storm also hit Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Washington. Strong winds have left tens of thousands of people without power, while evacuees have been told not to return to their homes.
Terrible memories of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 have returned to local residents.
