Apple's new update focuses on child safety

08:20 07/08/2021

Apple announces the introduction of a new system on users' devices that asks if the photo contains material about the sexual abuse of minors. Before an image is saved to iCloud Photos, the new technology will scan for even the slightest match of these materials.

According to Apple, if such a case is identified, there will be someone who will look into it and report the user to the relevant authorities. The system compares photos of sexual abuse from a database compiled by child sexual abuse protection organizations. These images are transcribed into numeric codes that can be matched to those of an Apple device. In addition, the technology will be able to distinguish similar images that may have been altered.

However, there is a concern with this update as this technology could be expanded to scan cellphones for banned content or political speech. In short, the government can use it to spy on its citizens.

Initially, this update will be available to users in the US, and a communication from Apple is awaited if it will be rolled out worldwide.tvklan.al
