Polls put young people at the top: We don't know another chancellor
1 and a half weeks separates Germany from the end of Angela Merkel's era, with which it seems that even the Christian Democrats can leave power, after 16 years at the head of the government.
The polls list the Social Democrats at the top, for the first time since the time of former chancellor Gerhard Schröder. The vast majority of agencies list Olaf Sholci's Social Democrats at the top this Thursday.
Their support ranges from 23-27%, almost 2% above the Christian Democrats. The post-election coalitions will be decisive for the new government. Among German voters, however, there is uncertainty after the departure of Merkel, the chancellor who dominated with her policies for a decade and a half, too long for a Western democracy, and this is especially evident among young people.
"I can't talk much about another chancellor, because Merkel has governed since I've been alive."
"She has done an amazing job and I wonder if the successor will get it."
During the years of her government, Merkel gave Germany the role of the European locomotive, successfully overcoming important crises such as the financial one in 2010 and the refugee one in 2015.
