Before to verify the profile, how Facebook users are being cheated

The 'hackers' are said to be reaching out to the public asking for personal details including password, address and phone number in exchange for a blue 'tick'.

The blue check mark on a profile is there to show that this public interest profile is genuine.

Twitter has already stated on Tuesday that some fake profiles have been verified, but that they were immediately suspended.

The company restarted verifications in May after a period of hiatus in issuing verifications, saying that only people "in the know" will be given the verification badge.

To get a blue tick, Twitter says the profile must be "real, active and popular".

Facebook, which also owns Instagram, says such scams could result in those trying to sell verifications being permanently banned from the platform.

On Instagram, scammers are reportedly asking for $1,000 to help people get verified. /tvklan.al
