"Education of Afghan youth, a common good"
Pope Francis hopes that as many countries as possible will be able to welcome Afghan citizens who seek to leave the country after the Taliban takeover.
While speaking about them at Sunday Mass, the Holy Father also referred to the restrictions imposed by the Taliban regime on women's education. He emphasized that it is very important for young Afghans to be educated.
"I pray that many countries will welcome them and protect those who seek a new life. "
Thousands of Afghans evacuated with the help of the United States are waiting in so-called transit centers. While thousands more are trying to leave through land crossings with neighboring countries like Pakistan.
“I also pray for the internally displaced so that they get the help and protection they need. Let the young Afghans be educated, which is an essential good for the development of humanity".
In front of thousands of believers in St. Peter's Square, the Pope also prayed for the victims of Hurricane IDA that hit the United States of America.
