Kluge: The third dose is not a luxury, necessary for the vulnerable
For the World Health Organization, it is no surprise that by December, the region of Europe where they include Russia and Central Asian countries will have more than 230 thousand more victims.
The warning is given by the head of the WHO for this region, Hans Kluge, who says that this calculation is reliable, since many countries in this area have not yet vaccinated even a quarter of the population due to a lack of doses.
More than half of the 53 countries have seen a 10% increase in infections in recent weeks, a high rate caused by the circulation of the Delta variant.
Unlike other leaders of this organization and from the opinion of the European drug agency EMA, Kluge says that a third dose of vaccine cannot be considered a luxury, and is even necessary mainly for those over 60% of age or other risk categories.
Thus, the Italian authorities announced that immunization with at least one of the doses has been extended to 70% of the persons who are subject to vaccination, among the highest levels in the European Union.
While in Greece, the administrative court overturned the request of the health workers' union for the annulment of the decision that suspends them from work if they are not vaccinated by September 1.
On Sunday afternoon, in the central square of Athens, there were fierce clashes between demonstrators against the green certificate and the police.
