The Government of Kosovo in today's meeting in electronic form has taken a decision to amend and supplement point 2 of the Government decision dated 16.08.2021, which was amended and supplemented with the decision dated 21.08.2021 to provide temporary protection and persons at risk of internal conflict in Afghanistan.
According to this decision, in addition to persons who are in the process of applying for a US Special Immigrant Visa (Special Immigrant Visa), those qualified under group P2 (special classification defined by the US Department of State as Priority 2), protection temporary and immediate will also be offered to other persons, under the agreement with the US, who will relocate to the US or another third country, including family members of these three groups.
Kosovo was one of the first countries to respond positively to a US request to shelter Afghans who have been cooperating with US forces since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.
President Vjosa Osmani has stated that the arrival of Afghan civilians in Kosovo is a matter of days and that their arrival depends on the organization of the transportation being carried out by the US.
The exact number of Afghan refugees that Kosovo will receive is not yet known, but the president has stated that work is underway to expand capacity to accept as many of them as possible.
