
The United States is sending more than half a million doses of Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine to Kosovo as the country faces a surge in new cases and deaths from the coronavirus.
The White House told Radio Free Europe that 503,100 doses will be delivered to Kosovo starting September 3. This donation will come to Kosovo through the COVAX program this weekend.
"The United States is committed to bringing the same urgency to international vaccination efforts as we have demonstrated in the United States, and we are working to bring safe and effective vaccines to Kosovo as soon as possible," he said. White House.
On August 20, 35,000 doses of Pfizer, a donation from the USA, arrived in Kosovo.
"This is a unique moment in history and requires American leadership. We will continue to do everything we can to create a safer world against the threat of this infectious disease," the White House said in a response sent to Radio Free Europe.
In recent weeks, Kosovo has seen an increase in the number of new cases and deaths. During September 3 alone, 26 new deaths and over 1,400 victims were registered in Kosovo.
During this week, state authorities in Kosovo announced that they have discontinued over 133.000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, after the expired ones. In Kosovo, citizens have expressed reluctance to receive this vaccine.
According to the data of the Ministry of Health, until September 3, 882,718 doses of vaccine were administered in Kosovo, where 298,445 people were vaccinated with two doses.
