According to L'Equipe, Neymar traveled to Belo Horizonte on Sunday to undergo surgery on his left knee.
The intervention will be performed by Brazil's national team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, on the 33-year-old striker, who can meanwhile extend his contract with Santos for another six months.
Dr. Lasmar, who has previously performed two operations on Neymar, will now focus on relieving the meniscus injury, a problem that has troubled the footballer during recent matches.
Despite the pain, Neymar made a major contribution, scoring five goals and providing one assist in the final four league matches, helping Santos finish the season in 12th place.
Neymar will remain sidelined and is not expected to return to action until early February. With his contract expiring on December 31, the club and player are reportedly close to agreeing a six-month extension, which would keep him at his boyhood club.
Neymar has expressed his motivation to stay in a supportive environment ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
"We will do everything we can to bring the World Cup back to Brazil. In July, you can hold me accountable," he recently declared.Telegraph
