Hero mother fights lion that attacked and dragged her 5-year-old son

A hero mother saved her son's life after a fight with a mountain lion. The unidentified California woman saw the predator drag her child about 45 feet across the lawn of their Calabasas home in the Santa Monica Mountains.

The child suffered traumatic head and torso injuries during the attack, but the credit for him still being there goes to his brave mother, a police officer said.

As the little boy recovers from the horrific attack at a Los Angeles hospital, California Department of Fish and Wildlife spokesman Capt. James Foy spoke of the brave mother:

"The real hero of this story is his mother because she absolutely saved her son's life. The noise caused by the attack and the boy's screams alerted the mother who was inside the house. She ran outside and immediately started kicking the lion until it was shunted away from her son."

The parents took the injured boy to the hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition. Hospital staff alerted authorities to the attack, and a wildlife officer dispatched to the scene shot and killed the animal.

It is said to be the first attack by a lion on a human in the area in more than 20 years. The mountain lion is also known as the cougar, panther or catamount and is native to North America.

The Mountain Lion Foundation estimates there are about 30,000 in the wild, but interactions with humans are very rare. They are hunters that mainly feed on deer, but they also eat chaotes, raccoons, rodents, wild boars, etc. /tvklan.al
