Hospitals on the verge of health collapse, the application of booster doses is expected to begin
Mississippi, the least vaccinated state in the US, is facing a health system collapse in the country. The country is experiencing an increase in cases and hospitalizations, overwhelming medical staff.
They are exhausted from the workload but also angry because of the citizens' refusal to be vaccinated. This country has vaccinated about 38% of its 3 million inhabitants, a very low vaccination rate which is responsible for the increase in cases.
Health authorities in the country state that it is difficult to see the faces of patients when they realize that they have made a mistake by choosing not to be vaccinated. Continuous misinformation about the coronavirus has discouraged citizens from taking a dose of the vaccine.
Meanwhile, the US is expected to start applying anti-Covid booster doses. Dr. Anthony Fauci said distribution of the third dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine could begin this month. Scientists are debating how much immunity against the coronavirus the booster doses provide and whether all US citizens should receive them.
Many European countries have also started offering third doses to their citizens such as France, Italy and Cyprus. Currently, health authorities in Spain are considering following similar policies.
