Mickoski: For artificial reasons, we still cannot be part of the European family

Due to artificial reasons, we still cannot be part of the European family, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said in Brussels.
He emphasized that the Government is undertaking all reforms to begin negotiations and that citizens deserve to be in the EU.

"It is good when the Western Balkans are in the perspective of the European Union, it is encouraging for the citizens of the Western Balkans because in this way the interest in our common future is shown because the Western Balkans geographically belong to Europe and it is logical that they integrate together within the EU. We as a country deserved this a long time ago because our path began 25 years ago, but due to what I would call artificial reasons, we still cannot be part of the European family. As a country and as a government, we are connecting to provide everything that is needed in this process, not because of the process itself, but above all because of the citizens, because they deserve it", said Mickoski.

He expressed his expectation that bilateral issues will not be an obstacle in this process.

"This is how we have worked so far, this is how we will continue and we expect that bilateral issues will not be an obstacle for us, but on the contrary, we expect from our neighbors support in this ambition of ours to be part of the EU and, most importantly, to be evaluated according to our achievements, not according to bilateral issues," said Mickoski.
