The media is informed by the IMC about the electoral regulations and obligations

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) held a roundtable discussion with representatives of licensed media outlets, as part of the commitments for the 2025 extraordinary elections.

The meeting was held on December 18, 2025 and aimed to inform the media regarding legal obligations during the election campaign, in accordance with Law No. 08/L-228 on General Elections and the by-laws of the IMC, with particular emphasis on IMC Regulation No. 2024/03.

In his opening remarks, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the IMC, Niman Racaj, stressed the importance of respecting legal obligations by the media, emphasizing the equal treatment of political entities, transparency in the publication of prices for political advertising, the election campaign coverage schedule from 12:00 to 24:00, as well as the time limits for broadcasting political advertisements.

During the workshop, the free time available to political entities, the criteria for organizing public opinion polls, and the respect for electoral silence were also discussed.

Also, IMC representatives presented data from the 2025 General Election Monitoring Report, highlighting the most frequent violations and challenges encountered during the electoral process.

The e-IMC platform was also presented at the meeting, which serves to complete election diaries and aims to facilitate media reporting through a simpler and more practical format.

The roundtable concluded with open discussions among participants on the challenges of professional reporting and the role of the media in informing the public fairly and impartially during the election process. /Telegrafi/
