Hospitals in Kosovo are full, some patients with COVID are asked to vacate their beds

The general hospitals and the COVID clinics at the University Clinical Center are filled with patients infected with COVID-19. Some of them have filled all their capacities and have no more room for other infected patients, and some others are on the verge of filling their capacities.

In the absence of vacancies, there are hospitals that are releasing some hospitalized patients to receive further treatment at home, so that beds can be released to other patients who are in a more serious state of health.

Only 6 free beds are left at the Ferizaj hospital for patients infected with COVID-19 who seek treatment there. With the increase in the number of patients seeking hospitalization due to infection with the coronavirus, the beds of this hospital have been filled.

While the demand for hospitalization continues to be high, patients who are in better health are being asked to vacate their beds and continue treatment at home.

The acting director of the Ferizaj hospital, Halit Gërbeshi, told Express that they are at the maximum limits in the hospital.
He said that they are managing the situation with difficulty due to limited capacities, while he indicated that this morning only 6 beds were available in the hospital for patients infected with COVID-19.

Gërbeshi stated that, just like in the past days, some patients were asked to be released from the hospital and receive treatment at home.
"Until now, all those who needed hospitalization are in the process of hospitalization. We are at the maximum limits. In the morning report, we also had 6 vacancies. Now I have given orders like every day that patients who need and can be treated at home, after that they are released (From the hospital), and every two or three hours we see how the situation is. The situation is moving, some are accepted, some are released", he declared.

Gerbeshi has shown that they are discussing other alternatives if they cannot cope with the large flow of patients.
"We are trying with the management of SHSKUK together with the minister and the board because the pandemic is very culminating, it has exploded a lot and our capacities are limited and we are looking at some possible modalities. We held three or four meetings together with the KKMF of Kaçanik, Elez Hanit of Shtime and the emergency headquarters of the Municipality of Ferizaj and the mayor of the municipality and together we are thinking about possible alternatives in case we cannot deal with the flow. At the moment we have several alternatives, but not something very suitable that offers conditions with equipment, X-ray laboratories and all", he added.

Gerbeshi has said that at this time they have a shortage of health workers, although they are providing the services with the maximum capacity and with the staff they have.
Meanwhile, the director of Prizren Hospital, Afrim Avdaj, said that they have a large number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

"Currently today, we have 163 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, of which 1 is intubated on mechanical ventilation, 13 others are on CPAP, but when this condition is applied, there are also 85 patients who in the last PCR test are negative but who are admitted to the hospital related to the clinical signs for positive COVID-19, then we have one more intubated patient and 3 with CPAP", he said.

Avdaj stated that they have hospitalized patients in wards where other diseases are treated and that despite the increased capacities, they have not turned back any patients who needed hospitalization.

"We have non-Covid hospitalized patients also for treatment in the surgery department, in the gynecology department, neonatology and pediatrics patients, which means that we are working with almost oversized capacities but the hospital continues to work and has spaces and beds for the treatment of other patients. Within the capacities we have so far, it has never happened that any patient who has indications for hospitalization does not have beds or a place to be hospitalized", he added.

The Gjilan hospital also has a large number of hospitalized patients. The director of this hospital, Arsim Emini, has stated that a large number of patients are in a serious state of health.
"128 is the number of patients who have been today, 110 are in oxygen therapy. We have a large number of patients who are in serious condition. We have 9 in serious condition in Intensive Care, but all of them are in serious condition, even based on the data in the wards there are patients in serious condition. Even the cases that are coming to us from the field are coming in serious condition", he said.

Emini emphasized that they still have free beds for patients who require hospitalization, while he stated that they are managing the situation by thanking the health staff for their commitment, especially the nurses.

On the other hand, due to the large number of patients, the Peja hospital had to vacate other spaces that were for patients with other diseases, as well as the meeting rooms.

In this hospital, the beds of the departments of Infectious Diseases, Pulmonology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, ENT, Ophthalmology and a part of the Emergency and Orthopedics and Urology Departments are filled with patients.

The Peja hospital told the newspaper that the new spaces are ready for patients with COVID, although their admission has not yet begun.
The same situation as in the regional hospitals is also in the COVID clinics of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo.

In the Clinic of Pulmonology and Infectious Diseases, the capacities have been full for several days and there was no more room for the admission of other patients.
The Clinical and University Hospital Service of Kosovo has announced that 1 thousand 233 are lying today in the COVID clinics and general hospitals, 83 of which are in serious health condition.

There are 117 patients in the Infectious Disease Clinic, 108 patients in the Sports Medicine Clinic, 78 patients in the Internal Medicine Clinic, 90 patients in the Pulmonology Clinic, 19 patients in Intensive Care for COVID-24, 16 patients in the Gynecology Clinic, 3 patients in the Clinic of Pediatrics 163 patients, in Prizren Hospital there are 113 patients, in Gjakova 220 patients, in Peja 128 patients, in Gjilan hospital 30 patients, in Vushtrri hospital 58, in Mitrovica hospital 85 patients and in that of Ferizaj XNUMX.
