The President of the European Commission has repeated her position that she will not recognize the Taliban

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has stated that the EU will increase its humanitarian aid to the Afghans from the previously planned 50 million to over 200 million Euros.

"This humanitarian aid will be on top of member states' contributions to help the people of Afghanistan ,” Ursula von der Leyen said, adding that she would announce additional support at a G7 summit later.

According to Reuters, the aid will be linked to the respect of human rights. She emphasized that not even a single Euro of this aid can go to a regime that denies women and girls their full freedoms and rights for education and career.

The President of the European Commission has announced her position regarding the situation in Afghanistan, where she has expressed her full support for the Afghan citizens, where she has stated earlier that it is the moral duty of the European Union to help the Afghans.

On the other hand, she reflected on her statement regarding the Taliban, where during a press conference in Spain she stated that she will not recognize the Taliban, but that she has contact with them in order to facilitate the evacuation of people.
