Born only 340 grams, the smallest premature baby celebrates its 1st birthday and enters the Guinness Book of Records

US

A baby in the USA is only one year old and entered the Guinness Book of Records. Richard Scott William Hutchinson is the most premature baby to survive.

He weighed just 340 grams when he was born and was so small that his parents could hold him in the palm of their hand. The doctors had given him zero hope that the little one would survive. Richard on June 5, 2021 blew out his first candle and is now officially in the record book.

He was born five months early, at 21 weeks of pregnancy, and the doctors at Children's Minnesota Hospital had prepared the parents for the worst. While a doctor from the team that followed the little one had said that if he manages to survive the first week of birth, he will throw it to him.

The battle with life for the little one was made more difficult by the Covid-19 pandemic. None of the parents and family managed to see or meet him, all the time little Richard was alone.

Only in December after six long months did Richard return home with his parents and on June 5th he celebrated his first birthday.
"I can't believe it, I'm very happy," said the little one's mother when she found out that Richard entered the record book.

"Sharing our son's story with others is also a way to sensitize other children who are born prematurely," concluded the mother of the 1-year-old.
