Michael Owen has given his assessment of Viktor Gyokeres' struggles at Arsenal, expressing doubts about whether the striker possesses the quality needed to consistently perform against the Premier League's strongest teams.
The former England striker believes that Gyokere's problems show the huge gap between excelling in Portugal and performing at the highest level in England.
Gyokeres built an incredible reputation during his two seasons in Portugal, where he was widely regarded as one of the most feared strikers in Europe.
He joined Arsenal having missed a large part of the pre-season, but expectations remained high that he would adapt quickly and lead the attacking department.
However, his adaptation has proven difficult, reinforcing the idea that success in Portugal does not always translate easily to the Premier League.
Although he acknowledges Gyokere's qualities, Owen has questioned his ability to influence matches against elite opponents.
"And you know what? Against Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Everton, whoever, he'll probably score a lot of goals, he knows how to finish and he'll be in the area."
"But to win these games against Liverpool, you need a little more class, just a little more class and that's where he's lacking," Owen said.Telegrafi/
