Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, during the inauguration of the new pedestrian bridge over the Ibar River in Mitrovica, stated that in every meeting with internationals he reiterates his position that the bridge over the Ibar should always be open.
During the inauguration, Kurti said that there is no need for KFOR members to be involved in this, but that this issue can be resolved through open dialogue.
"In every meeting, we reiterate our position that the bridge over the Ibar should always be open. We have a total of 77 bridges over the Ibar River, most of which are in Kosovo, there are also some in Montenegro and Serbia, the only bridge that has uniformed personnel on it all the time is the main bridge over the Ibar. I believe that there is no need for KFOR members to be there, but we will resolve this issue only through open conversation, with sincere dialogue, and I believe that the day will come when that bridge will also be open. Bridges have no ethnic affiliation, bridges over the Ibar are bridges of Mitrovica and Mitrovica residents without distinction," Kurti said.
Regarding the opening of the new bridge over the Ibar River for pedestrians, Kurti said that this will increase traffic in Mitrovica, KosovaPress reports.
"Let traffic increase and have as much mobility as possible in Mitrovica, in this city so important for our republic, so I thank the economic operator, the acting Minister of Environment, Hysen Durmishin, the new mayor Faton Peci and all the citizens of Mitrovica, who have contributed to this beautiful day that we are on the Ibar River and this new bridge," said Kurti.
Acting Minister of Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, said that in a total of 54 days, a record deadline, the new bridge over the Ibar River was built for vehicles, and from today also for pedestrians.
"On July 2, 2025, we laid the foundation stone for the bridge for vehicles, on August 26 we completed it and released it for traffic, in a total of 54 days with a record deadline. This space over the Ibar River will be used by all citizens, regardless of south or north," said Durmishi.
The Mayor of South Mitrovica, Faton Peci, said that the city is finally taking the right direction with the commitment of the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
"Finally, Mitrovica is taking the right direction and the bridges that have a mission and are synonymous with unity are taking the right direction, but this has been achieved due to the commitment of Prime Minister Kurti. Since the post-war period, unfortunately, Mitrovica has been continuously seen by central institutions as a problem for Mitrovica residents and in the last four and a half years we have had the attention of central institutions," said Peci.
The cornerstone for the new bridge over the Ibar River in Mitrovica was laid on July 2, and from today, citizens can enjoy it for vehicles and pedestrians.
