The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, announced that he had a phone call with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken. In an article on "Twitter", Kurti has said that he has discussed the acceptance of Afghans in Kosovo, adding that he will offer them a safe environment.
He further stated that the alliance between Kosovo and America is steadfast.
Appreciation for our support and cooperation. Kosovo is honored to provide a safe and secure environment for Afghan citizens during their transition. Our alliance with the US is steadfast and our friendship is getting stronger," Kurti wrote.
On Monday during the day, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla announced that so far 683 Afghan citizens have been temporarily sheltered in Kosovo.
The minister said that in addition to the Bechtel-Enka camp in Ferizaj, Afghans are now also sheltering in the American military camp, Bondsteel. 91 Afghans are currently sheltered there. The arrival of other Afghan citizens will continue during this week.
Earlier, the Kosovar authorities announced that they will host around 2,000 Afghan citizens who have worked with the United States and NATO member states.
According to the laws in force, Kosovo has granted them temporary residence for up to one year. They are expected to stay temporarily in Kosovo until their documentation is adjusted to settle finally in the United States or in any NATO member state.
