Kurti criticizes the EU for visa liberalization: It's a shame that Kosovo is still waiting and isolated, it's time to act ethically

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, gave a virtual speech at the European Forum Alpbach 2021, in Austria, where he was invited to participate physically, but canceled due to the situation aggravated by Covid-19 in Kosovo.

During his speech, Prime Minister Kurti said that he believes that the EU has long won the hearts and minds of all the countries and peoples of the Western Balkans and this, as he said, can be seen in the race between BP6 countries to enter in the EU, as well as the disappointment they face when they fail to move to the next stage in the integration process.

Regarding conditionality, Prime Minister Kurti said that the EU should act more ethically and fairly.

"The policy of sticks and carrots has not been very fruitful for Kosovo as we have received many sticks, but not many carrots. It has been more than a decade since all BP6 members received visa liberalization, while Kosovo is still waiting, isolated as in a ghetto, an image that brings a lot of shame to both parties," he said.

Kurti also said that the EU should clarify 5 things in relation to the Western Balkans: create a new momentum for reforms and make the enlargement fairer and more honest, increase funding, take responsibility for the continent ours, to increase the synchronization between Brussels and Washington and to complete the security umbrella.
