The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, declared at the Forum in Bled that the European Union must be protected and supported by those who intend to become members.
Kurti says that on the one hand the countries of the Western Balkans must carry out reforms, but the EU must also carry out reforms in the decision-making system.
According to him, with the membership of 6 countries of the region, the external border of the EU would be reduced and would be safer.
"Kosovo has stable institutions. The three main candidates in our winning list lead the three main institutions, Mrs. President, the Speaker of the Assembly and me. The democratic results of the democratic elections also brought economic effects. For the 7th month of this year compared to last year, exports increased by 63%, business by 30% and administration income by 28%.
We predict 6.9% of the economy for this year. We never discuss the EU or NATO, we want to become members quickly. The EU must be protected and supported, for this purpose we must carry out the reforms in our countries, at the same time we must proceed with the enlargement of the EU. External expansion and internal reforms in our countries go hand in hand. I believe that there should be reforms in the decision-making system of the EU. Bold steps will make it more possible for these things to happen.
We hosted 2 thousand Afghans in Kosovo, we are a poor country, but when it comes to humanitarian issues, we don't ask why, we say how. The partnership with the US is important. I believe that the inclusion of the 6 Western Balkans in the EU will have 2 benefits, the external border of the EU will be reduced by thousands of kilometers, we are not neighbors of the EU, we are surrounded by the EU. The outer margin of safety will become smaller, it will be better.
One in three citizens of the 6 countries of the region do not live in these countries. Mostly Western countries live in the EU. Inclusion in the EU, the nations of our diaspora will live in the same space. In Kosovo, over 20% of GDP is made up of remittances from the diaspora. Thank you very much. "- said Kurti.
