The Head of the Tuzi Municipality appeals to the Serbian Metropolitan: Distance yourself from those who sang against Kosovo

The Mayor of the Municipality of Tuzi in Montenegro, Nik Gjeloshaj, called on the Metropolitan of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro, Joanikije, to distance himself from those who sang nationalist songs with the lines "When the army returns to Kosovo", during the ordination his, on September 5.

These verses can be seen in the context of the call for war, said Gjeloshaj. His statement, which was broadcast by the media, was confirmed to Radio Free Europe by his office on Tuesday. "I see this as an abuse of religion, because it is no longer politics. Kosovo is an independent state. It is incomprehensible to me that someone from the church should call the army; that is, it calls for war. I think there are elements for the prosecution's investigation", said the mayor of Tuzi, a municipality with an Albanian majority.

The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro, Joanikije, was ordained on Sunday in the city of Cetina. A video appeared on social media that showed priests and believers in the inner courtyard of the Cetina Monastery, singing a song containing the lines "When the army returns to Kosovo".

The ordination of Joanikija has also caused incidents between Montenegrins and Montenegrin Serbs. Cetina is the cultural and historical center of this country and a symbol of spiritual and state identity for Montenegrins, but, at the same time, the city is the seat of the Metropolitanate of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro.
