The new school year in Kosovo is expected to begin on September 1, with the physical participation of students in school institutions and with a regular schedule, the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, said on Monday.
Most of the last school year in Kosovo, but also in other countries, took place remotely, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Nagavci said that "all studies" have shown that the consequences for children, due to the closing of schools, "have been great".
"Furthermore, it has been established that the closing of schools last year has caused obstacles in accessing regular education, but also uncertainty and stress among teachers in the application of methods to support students for distance education," said Nagavci through a post on Facebook.
"In order not to repeat the situation of last year, the only solution is to vaccinate teachers and administrative workers", she said.
According to official data, until August 20, more than 55,000 members of the educational staff in Kosovo have been vaccinated, including teachers in pre-university education, in higher education, but also students.
The number of teachers in primary and secondary schools in Kosovo is over 23,000, but it is not clear how many of them have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
In recent days, the number of people infected with the coronavirus has increased significantly in Kosovo, including children.
On Monday, according to data from the Ministry of Health, 16 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed among children aged 0 to 9 years and 112 new cases in the age group of 10 to 19 years.
