Measure to fight the addiction of this age group to video games

Authorities in China, the country with the world's largest video game market, have for years expressed concern about video games and online gaming among young people. Therefore, a new decision has been issued that limits the time period that children should play video games.

This age group can use the time from 20:00 to 21:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as well as on public holidays.

The National Press and Publication Administration said the new rules were in response to growing concerns that they were affecting children's physical and mental health. In China there are clinics where therapy and military exercises are applied to those suffering from what is known as "gaming disorder".

About 62.5 percent of Chinese minors play online games very often, and 13.2 percent of underage game users play mobile games more than two hours a day on weekdays, Chinese state media reported.

Online gaming companies must ensure that users use real names, and all data will then be sent to an anti-addiction system set up by the National Press and Publication Administration.

The latter told the Xinhua news agency that it will increase inspections of these companies to comply with the new restrictions. This regulator will also increase the measures for businesses if they break the rules and also the fines.
