Are you sunburned? These are some natural ways that dermatologists advise

With the high temperatures in the summer season, our skin is exposed to the strong rays of the sun.

To prevent sunburn and the risk of skin cancer, you should apply sunscreen every 2 hours a day. Not wearing a hat or expired sun cream can increase the risk of sunburn and as a result you will feel pain, heat and itching.

Once you've experienced a burn, dermatologists say there are steps you can take to calm down and get instant relief. While prevention is key, treating your sunburn with a few simple at-home remedies can help you feel your best, soothe the redness and pain, and make sure you never forget your sunscreen again!

Simple natural remedies that will soothe sunburn:

Soothing oatmeal bath: Research shows that oatmeal helps reduce inflammation and reduce itching, says dermatologist Michael Schreiber, MD.

Use ice: Follow your urge to cool your skin with something cold, but make sure you do it right. Take ice cubes, wrap them in a cloth and hold them over the burned area.

Ice cold water: is also an option. Pour water and ice into a bowl, wet a cloth in the water and place it over the burn. Repeat this process every few minutes.

Soothe skin with green and black tea: research shows that the tannic acid in black and green tea can help soothe the heat from sunburn, while catechins (an antioxidant compound) repair skin damage. This can be especially helpful if you have burns around the sensitive eye area. Just two tea capsules in cool water and place over closed eyes to reduce swelling and help relieve pain.

Use hydrocortisone cream: Cortizone (containing 1% hydrocortisone) minimizes itching, soothes skin irritation and reduces inflammation in a certain part of the body. Hydrocortisone has anti-inflammatory properties, which means it will reduce redness and ease the pain of a mild sunburn. Use 2 or 3 times a day depending on the severity of your burn.

Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera gel is very effective against sunburn. It has refreshing, soothing properties and promotes the formation of new skin layers. This gel is especially effective for minor burns that damage the outer layer of the skin. Aloe vera gel is alkaline, rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Wear light clothes: Wear soft, comfortable cotton clothes to minimize any painful friction that could further irritate the skin.

Protect yourself from double burning: if you don't want your skin to burn again, use sunscreen with SPF 30 or SPF 50 or wear light cotton clothes.
