"These are scenes that break your heart"! President Osmani for BBC: I was also a refugee, Kosovo welcomes Afghans with generosity

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, in an interview for the BBC, said that Kosovo welcomes Afghans with generosity, while she mentioned the fact that she too was a refugee and that she feels this situation.

Speaking about the situation in Afghanistan, President Osmani said that there are scenes that break her heart, while she said that within three days, the exact date when the refugees will arrive will be understood.

"...These are scenes that break your heart. I was also a refugee and we feel this every day...no one wants to leave their home until they are forced to because of violence...,” she said.

The president said that Kosovo has shown its willingness to accept Afghans without hesitation.

The exact number of Afghans who will come to Kosovo is not yet known, while President Osmani said that this will still be discussed.

“…Most likely we will have them sooner than we expected… At first we thought they would come in a few weeks and that we might have more time to prepare…. within three days it will be known about the exact date when they will come".

She said that if the states do not work together they cannot succeed, pointing to the case of Kosovo.

"If we don't work together we won't be able to succeed. In the case of Kosovo, only when the USA, the United Kingdom and other NATO members were together did they manage to defeat the Milosevic regime...".

In this interview for the BBC, President Osmani called on all democratic governments to extend a hand to the Afghans at this time.

"No one leaves the country because they want to, but because of desperation... If Kosovo, a small country can do this, any other country can...".
